3rd Birthday party
Yes, the munchkin turned 3 today. Well, okay, it was yesterday, but she’s 3 - her party was today . . . let’s not confuse the issue. *grin*
I am sitting semi-conscious on the couch. The wrapping paper/packaging is all stuffed in a large bag in the corner of the living room. The toys are put away (so is the munchkin, exhausted and passed out in bed). We opted for a subdued, family-oriented birthday party and, mostly, it was. Grandparents, cousins and just two close friends in attendance. Still, I’m WRECKED.

Fremont Farmer’s Market
Sunday is Farmer’s Market day!
After mass, we grabbed a bite to eat and headed out to the Fremont Irvington Farmer’s Market. We were running a bit late this week and the muchkin had to be “chased” a good deal of the way that we might make it before the market closed at 1.
I’ll tell ya folks, there really must be something going on with the local ladybug population. Just like last week, this week we spotted dozens of ladybugs during our walk. The munchkin is really good about not being to rough with them and has learned that patiently placing one’s hand in their path will usually lead to the thrill of a little red bug crawling all over one’s hand. Then, “Bye, Mr Ladybug, byyyyyeeeee!” when it flies off. “He went to his home, Daddy!”

Mommy & Daddy’s date night: Sala Thai 2
So the wifey and I had a hard week. With the folks agreeing to babysit, we decided to treat ourselves to a night out. After rejecting a number of cuisine options, we went looking for a Thai restaurant in Fremont. I was skeptical of the site at first, but more frequently I find myself perusing Yelp! when looking up places to go, and it was on yelp! that I found our restaurant: Sala Thai 2. We chose it because it came highly rated and our decision to dine out was a last minute one - the sister restaurant (Sala Thai 1), was more highly rated, but some folks on Yelp said that it was hard to get a reservation there.

Best Toy Ever
Bored toddler? Here’s what you do: Get that old mattress down from the attic - you know, the one you’ve been meaning to throw away. Bring it downstairs and lay it out on the dining room floor. Now go dig up that tutu that Auntie Mimi bought the munchkin for Christmas. And let entropy do the rest.

The Fremont Farmer’s Market
So the munchkin and I have developed something of a Sunday routine. After church we walk down to the farmer’s market at 5 corners in Irvington. It’s about a mile’s walk, pretty safe (albeit along some busy streets). Initially she used to complain within a block of home and ask to ride on daddy’s shoulders. But the deal is this - daddy’s shoulders only go one way: back home. You can get up on daddy’s shoulders at any time, but that’s when we turn around and go back to the house.
It’s a good arrangement, allowing her to walk as much as she feels like without worrying about her having enough steam to make it back. Plus, a long walk like that with a 2-year-old really reminds one how fascinating the world is. Hey, she’s closer to the ground and moves a lot slower. There’s lots to see. Look! Pine cones! A flower! A crack in the sidewalk!
Yeah, it can take us the better part of two hours to get down to the farmer’s market.
